President's message

Zandile Kunene was elected as the President of the CCEAM at the biennial conference in Durban, South Africa, in September 2008.  This is the first time that the CCEAM presidency has been located in South Africa or even in Africa. Ms Kunene is the Chief Executive Officer of the Matthew Goniwe School of Leadership and Governance (MGSLG) which is situated in Johannesburg, South Africa.

President's Message

South Africa is proud to be host to the CCEAM for the next few years and as a country we are happy to welcome all visitors to our shores who visit as a result of CCEAM activities. We are aware that we face many educational challenges and a resourcing and skills backlog. However, we are working very hard to redress these imbalances and to find innovative ways to improve education provision at all levels of our system.  Therefore, we are particularly interested in research, programmes and initiatives that can assist in our understanding of, and ways to deal with, the enormous challenges that face us.

Of course, we do not see the flow of information and resources as occurring in one way only - that is, TO us here in South Africa. We are proud to subscribe to, and to reiterate, the statement made by Pliny a couple of thousand years ago:

Ex Africa semper aliquid novi, (There is always something new out of Africa).

We believe that we have a lot to offer, because we have a unique history, unique challenges and a very strong desire to redress past imbalances in education provision, resourcing and quality.

The CCEAM offers all education leaders in commonwealth countries the opportunity to collaborate, learn together, exchange ideas and share their experience.

We wish to enable education leaders to participate in the global community more fully.
